As part of the Museum’s ongoing efforts to be more accessible for all visitors, we are excited to offer support for visitors with disabilities and their caregivers. Before visiting the Museum, please review our offerings below.
Individuals who self-identify as having a disability will not be charged admission. In addition, the visitor’s primary caregiver will not be charged admission.
In order to be fully accessible to all our visitors, Holocaust Museum Houston encourages alerting our Visitor Services staff should you need accommodations. This can be done on the day of your visit at the Admissions Desk, or you can let us know in advance about any accommodations you may need by contacting Helen Martinez, Admissions Coordinator, at hmartinez@hmh.org or 713-527-1614. We encourage all feedback and look forward to your visit.
FOR VISITORS WHO ARE BLIND OR HAVE LOW VISION
Complimentary assistive devices with an audio described tour of the Holocaust Gallery are available at the Admissions Desk. The tour, which was originally developed and tested in 2019, also includes navigational information so that visitors who are blind or visually impaired can navigate the exhibits independently.
All doors, galleries and restrooms have signs in braille.
FOR VISITORS WHO ARE DEAF OR HARD OF HEARING
Complimentary assistive devices with pre-recorded video ASL interpretation for the Holocaust Gallery are available at the Admissions Desk.
All video content for the Museum’s galleries includes closed captions.
FOR VISITORS WHO HAVE SENSORY SENSITIVITIES AND/OR AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS
Access HMH
The Access HMH app helps all families, especially people with autism, sensory needs or other disabilities prepare for an upcoming visit.
In the app, you can plan your visit through a series of social stories, create your own schedule for your visit, play a matching game and check out other features like the sensory friendly map, communication toolsn and insider tips.
Suggested break areas are located in the Memorial Room on the first floor and the Samuel Bak Gallery and the Legacy Café, both on the second floor. Visitors may also access an outdoor patio and garden area for breaks.
ACCESSIBLE PARKING

RESTROOMS
You can find restrooms, in the hallway near the front of the Museum lobby on the first floor. A family restroom is also available on the first floor. Additional restrooms are located on the second floor next to the staircase leading up the third floor and on the third floor to the right of the staircase.
VISITOR SAFETY
The following measures are in place to ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors. Please acquaint yourself with these protocols before visiting the Museum.
All bags, backpacks, briefcases, and packages will be inspected by security and patrons will be required to enter through a security scanner device.
Firearms, including without limitation handguns, shotguns and rifles (whether concealed or openly carried) are prohibited on the Museum premises and parking areas pursuant to Sections 30.06 and 30.07 of the Texas Penal Code. Knives, pepper spray and tasers are also prohibited in the Museum.
MEDICAL BAGS
Bags larger than 11 by 17 inches and all backpacks are not allowed in the Museum. Visitors who need to enter the Museum with necessary medical equipment will be accommodated. Please check with the Visitor Services staff at the Admissions Desk and a tag will be issued to display on your bag while you visit the Museum.
SERVICE ANIMALS
Service animals are welcome at Holocaust Museum Houston.
Holocaust Museum Houston abides by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and allows service animals, that is animals trained to perform specific tasks for an individual with a disability, into all the public areas of the Museum.
Service animal relief areas are located outdoors on any of the grassy areas surrounding the Museum.
GETTING AROUND THE MUSEUM
Holocaust Museum Houston is accessible to visitors who use wheelchairs, mobility aids or prefer to avoid stairs. All public areas are accessible.
Visitors with disabilities may use mobility devices, including manual and electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters and manually-powered mobility aids in all areas. Visitors may borrow manual wheelchairs from the Visitor Services desk located in the Main Lobby on a first-come, first-served basis.
When navigating the Museum, there are two elevators, which are accessible on all floors, that provide access to the Samuel Bak Gallery, the Albert and Ethel Herzstein Theater, Classrooms, and Legacy Café on the second floor of the Museum. They also provide access to the Boniuk Library located on the third floor. Both elevators have space for the visitor in a wheelchair,
