POSITION SUMMARY
Assists the Director of Finance and Chief Financial Officer in managing the Museum’s accounting functions. These functions include maintaining the organization’s accounting principles, practices and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Verifies and posts details of revenue and expenses to computer systems, spreadsheets, and databases
- Ensure all company payments are processed accurately and made on time
- Prepares adjusting journal entries as needed
- Responds to inquiries from vendors and colleagues
- Assist with budget management.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards such as Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) guidelines
- Serves Museum as Accounting/Business Administration team member
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 1–2 years of accounting experience preferred
REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Competence using automated systems, including database systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize payment schedules effectively
- Communicates effectively in both written and verbal formats
- Uses initiative and flexibility in making decisions and recommendations
- Ability to research accounting issues using authoritative guidance and expert reference materials and apply findings appropriately
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires prolonged periods of working on a computer, occasional movement throughout office spaces, and handling documents or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a full-time, on-site position operating in a professional office environment. The Staff Accountant works in a shared office space alongside the Human Resources department and collaborates regularly with HR and other administrative staff. The role requires extended periods of sitting, working at a computer, and managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Standard business hours apply, with occasional additional hours during month-end or year-end close periods.
