WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates primarily in school-based settings as a part of the Education in Motion Program. The Museum Educator will work with schools to schedule visits throughout the school year (usually September through May) and travel to those campuses to deliver programming for their students in-person. Typically, the Museum Educator will travel to one campus each day and teach throughout the school day in classrooms, libraries, auditoriums, or lecture halls using museum developed presentations and materials. The schedule is set by the school in accordance with their bell schedule. Museum Educators are advised to arrive 30 minutes in advance of their first presentation and to factor in driving distances when planning for their visits. As driving time and instruction time varies by school, schedules vary each day but typically occur during regular school-based hours. Technology is provided by each campus or the museum when that technology is not available. Museum Educators work with public and private schools in urban and suburban areas and interact with diverse student and community populations.

This position operates 1-2 days a week in a professional office and museum environment. When at the museum, work is typically performed onsite during regular business hours, Monday through Friday. Work is typically performed indoors and involves regular interaction and collaboration with staff, visitors, volunteers, and external partners. The work environment is professional and collaborative, with periods of increased activity during exhibition openings, special events, or peak programming. This role requires some nights and weekends outside of standard business hours to support Education Department initiatives such as workshops, educator institutes, community events, and public programs.
