Technology Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Technology Coordinator oversees and maintains all technical systems across the museum, including exhibit technology, theater systems, classroom equipment, and staff hardware. This role ensures reliable day-to-day operation through troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and coordination of system improvements. This position works alongside a third-party IT support team that handles office employees’ day-to-day IT needs.  This position collaborates with internal teams and external vendors to support installations, resolve issues, and enhance the overall visitor and staff experience. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Oversee and maintain all museum technical systems, including exhibit technology, theater systems, lighting systems, classroom equipment, and administrative equipment  
  • Monitor system performance and perform routine maintenance to ensure reliable day-to-day operations  
  • Troubleshoot technical issues across exhibits, AV systems, and hardware; diagnose problems and determine appropriate solutions or escalation  
  • Collaborate with a third-party IT support team responsible for employees’ day-to-day IT needs, ensuring alignment and effective issue resolution  
  • Assist with ordering, configuring, and setting up employee computers and related hardware  
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors on technology solutions (including AI-based tools), installations, upgrades, and repairs  
  • Provide AV support for after-hours events and special programs  
  • Assist facilities team as needed 
  • Maintain and regularly update a comprehensive inventory of all museum technology and equipment  
  • Document technical processes, issues, and resolutions to support continuity and efficiency 

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE 

  • 5 years of experience supporting technical systems, including AV equipment, hardware, and/or interactive technologies 
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, and AV systems in a professional environment 
  • Familiarity with exhibit technology, theater systems, or live event AV support preferred 
  • Experience setting up and configuring employee computers and related hardware 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES 

  • Proficiency in audio engineering, video switching, and lighting techniques. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with third-party IT support teams and external vendors 
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues and implement effective solutions 
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to track and maintain technology inventory 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to support non-technical staff 
  • Ability to work evenings or weekends for events as needed 
  • Self-motivated  

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds 
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the museum for extended periods 
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and climb ladders as needed to access and service equipment 
  • Ability to work in confined or hard-to-reach spaces (e.g., behind exhibits, under desks) 
  • Ability to visually inspect equipment and read screens, labels, and technical diagrams 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

This position operates primarily in a professional office and museum environment that includes exhibit space, art gallery, and theater. Work is typically performed indoors and involves regular interaction with staff, visitors, volunteers, and external partners. The role requires attendance at events, programs, or meetings outside of normal business hours. The work environment is generally quiet to moderately busy, with periods of increased activity during peak programming or special events.
