Position Summary:
The Director, Development Operations and Prospect Development position serves as the strategic arm of fundraising operations, focusing on database management, prospect pools, pipelines, prospect identification, research, relationship management, moves management and data analytics. The Director, Development Operations and Prospect Development is responsible for planning and oversight of wealth screenings, in-house data modeling, scoring, analytics, portfolio review and performance measures as it relates to campaign and non-campaign projects.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages and is the go-to expert for the organization’s database.
- Implements best practices in database management and ensures all staff are following data entry procedures.
- Supervises and manages the Development Assistant responsible for gift processing and acknowledgments.
- Oversees and maintains specific fields in the donor database. These fields include, but are not limited to fundraising plans, opportunities, personal information, relationships, revenue, and documentation.
- Provides database training and support for all Museum staff, as needed.
- Prepares thorough and accurate donor profiles on individuals, corporations and foundations which include biographical, financial, historical giving information, potential for philanthropic support, areas of interest and affiliations.
- Provides ongoing prospect management, which includes facilitating the prospect assignment process to ensure balanced and viable portfolios, as well as portfolios that are in-line with the established policies and procedures; works closely with staff to ensure that portfolios are well resourced with appropriate leads from prospect pools; collaborates with the Chief Development Officer on the management and assignment of these prospect pools.
- Provides Development staff with tools, such as reporting and analysis, to assist in making data-driven decisions. Assists with the creation and ongoing development of these tools to enhance the capability to track and report on prospect and portfolio activity.
- Serves as campaign and project assistant for campaigns and/or various fundraising projects.
- Identifies and researches prospective board members and partners with the Board Services Coordinator on reports of current board member activity. Attends board nomination meetings.
- Monitors appropriate use of database; provides pipeline and routine reports on a scheduled basis.
- Conducts portfolio review meetings and training sessions with Development staff.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
- At least five years job-related work in development, advancement operations and/or fundraising.
Skills/Knowledge Requirements:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the technology tools available to Development, including a CRM environment (preferably Blackbaud Altru), MS Office Suite and LexisNexis; prior knowledge of MS Power Bi and iWave is a plus.
- Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
- Knowledge of institutional funding principles, methods, procedures, and resources
- Proven library and research techniques, emphasizing the ability to gather, evaluate and synthesize complex data from various sources, apply intelligence and interpretative insights and present information in a clear and cohesive manner.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage a commitment to professional ethics and confidentiality; apply good judgment and discretion when dealing with highly confidential donor and prospect information.
- Must be a detail-oriented, self-starter with an ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities to meet challenging deadlines.
Other Requirements:
- Some weekend and evening work hours required.
