The Nazi Olympics Berlin 1936

This extensive exhibition from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum documents the history of the 1936 Olympic Games and the stories of the athletes who were there. It is an engrossing exploration of the Nazification of the Games, using photographs, documents, posters, newspaper articles, film and interviews with some of the athletes to go behind the pageantry and expose the rampant repression, militarization and persecution in Germany. The exhibition covers the worldwide boycott controversy of the time, the treatment of Jewish and black athletes, censorship of the press, the camouflaging of Nazi racist policies and the tragic events of the years following the Olympics.
