Position summary:
Holocaust Museum Houston security department is seeking self-motivated and experienced security officers for a part time position as well as for a limited full-time opportunity.
The prime responsibility of the security officer is to make sure that the museum can operate safely and securely, by following the museum’s security policies and procedures and maintaining a high level of customer service. The security officer is responsible for all the basic values of physical security, to deter, detect and respond to anything unusual. As the security officer is often the first contact person for visitors, it is crucial that the security officer balance authority and responsibility with customer service towards staff, volunteers, visitors, vendors, and other parties visiting the museum.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
- Understand the security posture of Holocaust Museum Houston and maintain it.
- Perform security screening.
- Follow security policies and procedures.
- Understand the museum’s layout.
- Investigate complaints and issues assigned by Director of Security.
- Assists in all the functions of protection of staff and museum property.
- Keep the Director of Security apprised of all conditions that affect the safety and security of staff, visitors, and museum property.
- Assist with after-hour functions.
- Write incident reports related to unusual or illegal activity such as vandalism, theft, injury etc.
- Cooperate with the security team which includes frequent communication and rotation of posts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:
- High school diploma or certified GED required.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in the security industry.
- Willing and able to pass background check and additional professional screening.
- Experience working with metal detector and X Ray system.
- Meet requirements specified In DPS Regulatory services regarding criminal history.
- Must be a commissioned security officer with level 3/4 certified by DPS.
- Must be a team player with excellent intrapersonal skills.
- Understand the importance of the mission of the museum.
- Detail oriented.
- Must be able to work daytime and evening shifts as well as weekends.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must be neatly groomed.
- Has good communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Experience:
- Law Enforcement and military background preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related subject.
- 3 – 5 years of experience as armed security officer.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
