POSITION SUMMARY
The Public Programs and Outreach Coordinator is a full-time, exempt staff position responsible for community outreach initiatives and educational programming for the general public. This position plans public programs connected to HMH’s permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions, develops community partnerships with organizations and institutions, coordinates Holocaust remembrance and Jewish community events, and organizes speaking engagements for survivors and their descendants as a part of the Speaker’s Bureau program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Researches, organizes, and facilitates public programs around our permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions.
Coordinates the administrative details of public programs, such as corresponding with speakers, managing travel and accommodations, negotiating contracts, arranging event logistics, ordering books, and budget development.
Collaborates with Jewish institutions and organizations to host community events, such as the Houton Jewish Film Festival, the Jewish Book & Arts Festival, and Yom Limmud.
Develops and nurtures community partnerships with local universities and community organizations to support education initiatives around our mission.
Coordinates Holocaust remembrance programs and anniversary events such as the Citywide Yom HaShoah Commemoration, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and Zikaron BaSalon.
Oversees the Speaker’s Bureau program by scheduling speaking engagements for descendants at the museum and local schools, managing training and evaluation process for new speakers, promoting and recruiting schools to participate in Speaker’s Bureau program, and expanding Speaker’s Bureau volunteer corps.
Works with the marketing department to prepare promotional materials for events and programs, including event webpages, invitations, flyers, eblasts, etc.
Manages database records, statistics, and grant reporting related to public programs, community partner events, and the Speaker’s Bureau.
Attends and presents professionally at conferences and seminars related to the Holocaust, teaching practices, and other relevant issues.
Other responsibilities as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in History, Holocaust Studies, Jewish Studies, or other related subjects.
Familiarity with Jewish history, culture, and religious customs.
Experience in organizing community events, public programs, and workshops for a variety of audiences.
Experience in developing partnerships with organizations and institutions, particularly Jewish serving organizations.
Experience in program management and facilitation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in History, Holocaust Studies, Jewish Studies, or other related subjects.
Knowledge of and experience in Holocaust and genocide education.
Spanish language proficiency.
REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
Technical skills: proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google programs, Zoom, and Canva; comfortable working with theater and technological equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, work at a computer, and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically. Occasional lifting or moving of materials up to 15 pounds may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.
Reliable transportation and/or driving are expected as this position requires occasional traveling to onsite and off-site meetings and events throughout the Greater Houston region.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates primarily in a professional office and museum environment. Work is typically performed indoors and involves regular interaction with staff, visitors, volunteers, and external partners. The role requires attendance at events, programs, and/or meetings outside of normal business hours. The work environment is professional and collaborative, with periods of increased activity during exhibition openings, special events, or peak programming.
