a aproximadamente 40 millas al norte de Praga, en la Rep\u00fablica Checa, Terezin fue construida en 1780 para servir como fuerte y guarnici\u00f3n militar. Cuando la Alemania nazi ocup\u00f3 Checoslovaquia en 1941, el pueblo fue convertido en un gueto donde juntaban a los jud\u00edos antes de enviarlos m\u00e1s al este a los campos de exterminio.<\/p>\n<p>En menos de cuatro a\u00f1os, m\u00e1s de 150,000 hombres, mujeres y ni\u00f1os fueron llevados a Theresienstadt. De ellos, hasta 35,000 murieron en el gueto mismo, y m\u00e1s de 88,000 personas fueron deportadas a campos de exterminio en Polonia. <\/p>\n<p>M\u00e1s de 12,000 ni\u00f1os menores de 15 a\u00f1os pasaron por el campo de concentraci\u00f3n de Terezin (tambi\u00e9n conocido con su nombre alem\u00e1n Theresienstadt) entre los a\u00f1os de 1942 y 1944. De ellos, m\u00e1s del 90 por ciento perecieron durante el Holocausto. <\/p>\n<p>Un grupo de adultos dedicados se pusieron como meta cuidar de los ni\u00f1os, no solamente de cubrir sus necesidades f\u00edsicas sino tambi\u00e9n de adoptar el papel de maestros. Estos adultos intentaron aislar a los ni\u00f1os en la medida de lo posible de la deprimente realidad de la vida en el gueto y de los temores de un futuro incierto. <\/p>\n<p>A pesar de sus esfuerzos, es evidente por los dibujos, diarios y revistas producidas clandestinamente por los ni\u00f1os que ellos comprend\u00edan lo que pasaba a su alrededor. Cerca del 90 por ciento de los ni\u00f1os de Theresienstadt perecieron en los campos de la muerte. Para muchos de los ni\u00f1os de Theresienstadt, los objetos creados mientras estuvieron ah\u00ed son las \u00fanicas cosas que quedan de sus vidas. <\/p>\n<p>Esta exposici\u00f3n explorar\u00e1 la capacidad de los ni\u00f1os de ir m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de sus barreras f\u00edsicas por medio del arte y la escritura. En la exposici\u00f3n se exhibir\u00e1n m\u00e1s de 40 objetos en pr\u00e9stamo de Beit Theresienstadt en Israel, incluyendo collages, dibujos, diarios, revistas, juegos y marionetas, muchos de los cuales nunca antes se hab\u00edan exhibido.
