Position Summary: The assistant librarian at Holocaust Museum Houston assists in all aspects of the operations of a museum library, particularly collection development, cataloging, circulation and reference services. This position is scheduled for noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
Principal Responsibilities:

Maintains and updates Houston Holocaust Survivor Registry;

Participates in all collection development activities;

Assists in cataloging (copy and original), processing and circulation of library materials;

Provides professional reference services to patrons and Museum staff in person, by telephone, electronically and/or by mail;

Assists library users in accessing print or electronic resources;

Shelves/retrieves library and archival materials;

Tracks and sends notices of overdue library items and fines to users;

Creates, writes and updates library publications such as manuals, guides, bibliographies, subject guides and other information literacy/library promotional materials;

Assists in implementing Saturday library programs; and
-
Supervises and trains weekend volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in library and information science or 18 credit hours completed in an ALA-accredited master’s degree program in library and information science;

Ability to work Saturdays, noon-5 p.m.;
- Excellent communication skills and sense of professional responsibility; and
-
Ability to be self-motivated and work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Previous experience in an academic, public or special library;
- Completion of, or concurrent enrollment in, courses in collection development, cataloging and reference services;
- Interest in a career in special/museum librarianship; and
- Reading knowledge of German or Hebrew preferred.
