Holocaust Museum Houston is pleased to offer a scholarship for graduating seniors that honors the memory of those who perished during the Holocaust. The scholarship is being presented as a part of the Museum’s citywide commemoration of Yom HaShoah (Day of Remembrance) for the victims of the Holocaust.
The scholarship is open to high school seniors who will attend a two- or four-year college or university, with matriculation to begin in the 2015-2016 academic year. The scholarship is open to students whose school is located within the Region 4 Education Service Center area (see http://www.esc4.net). The student selected to receive the scholarship must be available to attend the Yom HaShoah commemoration service on Sunday, April 19, 2015. Guidance counselors and teachers are encouraged to nominate a student who has exemplified part of the mission of Holocaust Museum Houston – to teach the dangers of hatred, prejudice and apathy – by writing a one- or two-page letter on school letterhead that details how the student being nominated has exemplified behaviors to stop the dangers of hatred, prejudice and apathy in his or her school or community. Students may wish to approach a teacher or guidance counselor to request nomination for the award.
Nominated students must submit a 500- to 1,000-word essay answering the question, "Why is it important to remember the Holocaust today?"
Nomination forms and student essays are due by Monday, Jan. 19, 2015. The nominations will be reviewed by committee, with announcement of the award being made by March 9, 2015.
This scholarship is a one-time presentation of $500, to be used to support the student’s first year of college or university education, and is being presented by David Barg Endowment Fund. The commemoration service is presented by the Morgan Family Endowment Fund, the Morgan Family Center and the Morgan Family Foundation. For more information, please contact email@example.com.
