2016 LBJ Moral Courage Dinner
Thursday, June 2, 2016
Location: Hilton Americas-Houston

With 1,100 people on hand, Holocaust Museum Houston celebrated its 20th anniversary Thursday, June 2, 2016, during the Lyndon Baines Johnson Moral Courage Awards dinner held at Hilton Americas-Houston.

The evening honored the Partisan brothers, Tuvia, Asael, Aron and Zus Bielski, whose true-life story of courage during the Holocaust was the basis for the movie “Defiance." Asael’s daughter Assaela Bielski Weinstein accepted the award from David Bach, grandson of Partisans saved by the Bielski Brothers. Tuvia, Asael and Zus Bielski received the award posthumously.

The Bielskis established a partisan camp in the forests of Belarus during World War II and saved 1,200 Jews from the Nazis. The descendants of those saved are now said to number more than 10,000 people.

The evening raised more than $1.2 million which supports the worldwide educational programs of the Museum that promote awareness of the dangers of hatred, prejudice and apathy against the backdrop of the Holocaust.
