Subject : Bank of Texas Film and Lecture Series: “Into the Arms of Strangers”
Detail : This Academy Award-winning documentary chronicles one of the lesser-known stories of the Holocaust: that of the kindertransport, a rescue operation which saved the lives of 10,000 Jewish children from Nazi Germany by transporting them via train to England. They were placed in foster homes and hostels. This moving film bears witness to the kindness of people and to the resilience of the kinder, now elderly, who recall in haunting stories the unimaginable grief of being suddenly torn from their parents, the trauma of not knowing whether they would ever see them again and the difficulties some faced in their new homes. The film is narrated by Dame Judi Dench. Dec. 2 has been proclaimed World Kindertransport Day, marking the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the kindertransports. This program is presented as part of the Bank of Texas Film and Lecture Series. Tickets are $5 for HMH members, seniors and students and $8 for nonmembers. Seating is limited, and advance registration is requested. Visit https://www.hmh.org/RegisterEvent.aspx to RSVP online. Please note: online registration is not refundable.
